Jesus Jaime-Diaz

Jesus Jaime-Diaz is from the rural community of Hermiston, Oregon in the Pacific Northwest, with cultural roots in the regions of Nayarit & Durango Mexico. He is currently a PhD student in Language, Reading & Culture with a minor in Mexican American Studies at the University of Arizona, in the Department of Teaching, Learning & Sociocultural Studies.

His previous research has focused on testimonio and critical ethnography as methodologies to examine how second generation Latina/o students in community college use their lived experiences to serve as a catalyst to “empower” them to pursue a higher education. His current research interest is focused on social class in education & racialized tracking in contemporary schooling.

Jesus has assisted & taught lower & upper division undergraduate courses in Speech Communication, Ethnic Studies, Mexican American /Bicultural Bilingual Studies and Critical Multicultural/ Language Minority Education at Oregon State University, University of Tejas at San Antonio and at the University of Arizona.

He holds an MA in Interdisciplinary Studies and a BA with a double major in Ethnic Studies & Speech Communication from Oregon State University. Jesus is also an AA and a GED recipient from Blue Mountain Community College in rural Northeastern Oregon.

He is currently exploring how a “communal” ethnography could be amassed to problematize how gender, social class and race intersect within the realm of education and how such views restrain socio-historically dispossessed communities.
