The Ethnic Studies Department at Folsom Lake College is committed to equity, diversity, anti-racism, social justice, environmental justice, and sustainability through addressing inequality and activity participating in anti-racist action. By establishing a shared understanding and appreciation of the four core disproportionately impacted cultures and their experiences specifically in the United States, we affirm our commitment to justice, equity, and the pursuit of decolonized knowledge. We endeavor to create an environment of civility and respect, and we condemn all forms of bigotry, discrimination, oppression, and intolerance. We encourage critical thinking and debate based on facts and evidence, and we value the multiple forms of knowledge represented by diverse cultures and societies. We stand in support of all of our students and their right to attain an education; their safety and well-being is our highest concern. We empower students to use their voices and actions to stand against all forms of oppression.

Faculty will foster an anti-racist, inclusive, respectful, and active community of learners that critically analyzes and challenges systems of oppression through engaging in emancipatory pedagogies that connect the classroom, our college community, and society. The faculty member shall be responsible for the following: teaching assigned classes under the supervision of the area dean; helping students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content; maintaining thorough and up-to-date knowledge in their teaching discipline; continuous reflection and work on equity-minded practices; maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position; assisting with curriculum, accreditation and articulation; participating in college service, participatory governance, and student co-curricular activities; assuming other responsibilities as assigned by the area dean; and fulfilling other duties and responsibilities of a full-time instructor.

• A commitment to, and successful experience with working collaboratively as a member of a team.
• Knowledge and application of the major epistemological considerations informing the discipline of Ethnic Studies, including relevant history and contexts of the field, contributing theories, and pedagogical approaches.
• Commitment to supporting the success of underrepresented, disproportionately impacted students through mentoring, community work, club advising, and support of learning communities.

• Leadership and communication skills.
• Knowledge of and/or experience with and/or interest in online pedagogy and instructional technology/learning management systems in asynchronous online/hybrid settings.

The faculty member will be part of the Ethnic Studies Department which values its interdisciplinary and diverse field that gives voice to historically marginalized peoples and their perspectives by challenging systems of injustice and valuing diversity. This program seeks to educate students on progressive social change, reflect on the dynamics of power and knowledge, and promote multiple approaches to social justice issues while encouraging students to be informed and active citizens.
